Biography

Dr. Kiran Bala is presently working as Associate Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Indore, India. She holds Ph.D. degree in Environmental Technology. She is a gold medalist at postgrad level (M.Sc. Environmental Science). She has various fellowship/awards such as DBT women scientist, Dr. D.S. Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellow award, DST INSPIRE Faculty Fellow Award and DST Early Career Research Award in her credit. She is member of INYAS - INSA (2022-2027). She got selected as one of the 75 women in STEAM in the country to be featured in the second edition of She is (2022).

She has worked with The Energy and Resources Institute, Delhi; Anna University, Chennai and Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore as a researcher before joining IIT Indore. Dr. Kiran Bala’s research is broadly focused on development of an integrated technology which takes nutrients from wastewater, carbon dioxide from industrial flue gas and gives us various products such as biofuels/bioplastics. 

She has been the project investigator for several projects funded by DST, SERB, DBT, MoES. She leads Algae EcoTechnology and Sustainability group at IIT Indore with few M.Sc., Ph. D. students (12 ongoing) and Post Doctoral Fellows (02). She has published 49 papers in journals of International repute, and 10 book chapters. She has visited several countries including the USA, Germany, Ethiopia, Netherlands for delivering invited talks and lectures.
